The Guy Who Bought MySpace Thinks Twitter Sucks

Rupert Murdoch, who paid over half a billion dollars for MySpace, doesn't get Twitter. Here's the quote:

"I have no idea how they can monetize it. No one monetizes the Web today to any extent other than search."

In the same sentence he manages to pose the question and the answer. How to monetize Twitter? Search.

In another article on Silicon Alley Insider Henry Blodget talks about Bing adding Twitter to search results. Twitter can start charging companies, brands, anyone to have their content searchable. So if I search "Comcast cable" into Bing I get not only their homepage and a bunch of other results I could get the ComcastCares feed. Maybe I was looking for troubleshooting and I can ask Frank. The possibilities are endless. Search "coffee" get a coupon from Caribou for following them. Done.
